30th March 2007- District Championship Entry Deadline

Note the deadline for entries for this championship in May is 24th April. The closing date was previously the 10th but has been extended due to a delay in printing entry forms. These should be received in the post imminently and online entry is also available at the Scottish Athletics website. This is plenty warning. Let's see a healthy turnout from Whitemoss.

I will endeavour to post championship information on the Events Diary so keep checking there for updates.

24th March 2007- Nithsdale Open Grade, Dumfries

All those who gave their names for this trip on 15th April should be receiving entry forms from Elaine and Sylvia now.

Since there are quite a few athletes going, the management duo are pre-entering everyone. Entry forms and fees should be returned to your coach or the aforementioned lovely ladies no later than Thursday 29th March. Spare forms can be printed from the Events page of this site. This avoids a rush to enter on the day. It will also mean I cannot back out of my planned one off competitive outing over 400m!

The bus leaves at 9am for the 12noon start and leaves sunny Dumfries at approximately 3.45pm. By all accounts, this is a great day out and this occasion should be no different.

14th March 2007- Lochgoilhead Trip in September

This trip is scheduled for the weekend of 28th-30th September, the week after the September weekend, and is open to second year under 13 athletes and above. Forms are attached to the noticeboard in the cabin and must be returned by Monday 26th March. Places are strictly on a first come first served basis.

4th March 2007- International Children's Games

Congratulations are in order for Ainsley Douglas who has been selected for the South Lanarkshire squad attending the above in Reykavik, Iceland, in late June this year. Showing multiple sporting talents, Ainsley's selection is actually for the girl's football squad. Best of luck when the event comes.

The club shall be running transport to this meeting at the David Keswick Centre in Dumfries on Sunday 15th April. The cost shall be £3 and places shall be allocated on a first come first served basis.

31st January 2007- 3rd Indoor League Meeting

Just a reminder that the last indoor league competition before the finals is this Sunday, 4th February. Team buses departs from JWSC T 8.30am sharp. Be sure to check with your coach whether you are selected. The scrutinised results from the previous competition are not yet widely available but most age groups still have something to play for. Best of luck and see you there.

27th January 2007- *IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ*

I've pasted an excerpt here from an email sent by Euan McMurtrie to the mailing list. If anyone hasn't seen it, please read on.

"This is an interesting topic on the SAL website and relates to a series of road-shows which aim to let Scottish Athletics give their views on how they see the sport developing over the next few years. There will be a major impact on Leagues and Open graded competitions.   www.scottishathletics.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=299  The next road show event is at Scotstoun on Wednesday night starting at 7:15pm.  The other dates are Monday 5th Feb Inverness, Monday 12th Feb Aberdeen, Tuesday 13th Feb Meadowbank, Monday 19th Feb Stirling."

It may be worthwhile for someone from the club to attend the meeting at Scotstoun on Wednesday. I'm considering it. If I do go, I'll report back via the website and forum.

27th January 2007- Provisional Summer Fixtures

Some provisional dates for this summer's league competitions and championships can now be found on the Events page of this site. The eagle eyed among you will see the second Central and South of Scotland League fixture is on home territory. The committee intend to use this meeting as an opportunity to invite parents of all club members along for an open day, with possible barbecue perhaps, to get to know club personnel a little better. The aim is to make more aware of what Whitemoss actually does, who runs the club and the competitions open to the members and in turn see turnout increase at other competitions outwith the indoor and outdoor leagues. Watch this space as they say.

On that note, having given the various championship dates, you have plenty time to plan ahead. No excuses for low participation rates!

20th January 2007- High Jump Training

A little note to say that Ian McEwan's high jump group recommences tomorrow (21st) at the Playbarn. Most of you will probably read this too late but he is also taking a session on Sunday 28th January. The following weekend is, of course, the third indoor league competition. Training is from 10am-11.50am and all are welcome.

3rd January 2007- New Year and Indoor League

"Happy New Year
lets be of good cheer
we've all had our turkey and greeting.

So get off your seat
and dust off your feet
This Sunday's the next league meeting."

Some nice sentiments from the club forum there. Yes, I shall take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very Happy New Year and every best wish for 2007. It's a strange week just now. Yesterday felt like Saturday because I was at a football match during the day but it was actually Tuesday. Today seemed like Monday since I was working but it's really Wednesday. I'll get my head together before too long.

Anyway, well done to those who competed at the open grades over the Christmas holiday. The results will be posted on the site as soon as they are available. Anyone doing indoor championships in January and February should feel the benefit of these meetings in terms of gaining a competitive edge, getting used to competing indoors etc.

Most importantly, don't forget this Sunday, 7th January, is the next indoor league competition. If you haven't done so already, check with your coach if you are selected and what events you are doing. Based on the unscrutinised results, most teams are sitting in healthy positions. With two more competitions to obtain a place in the finals, there is plenty to play for.
