18th March 2007- Scottish Athletics Indoor League Finals and Relays, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

A dramatic afternoon at Scotland's indoor arena saw the athletes of Whitemoss head home with personal best performances and a few medals to boot. Many athletes showed form which can hopefully be carried into a successful summer season. Perhaps it is best for the statistics to speak for themselves.

The relay results can be accessed here. As you will see the under 11 boys, under 13 boys, under 20 men, under 11 girls A and B teams, under 15 girls and under 20 women were all in the finals. Five of those seven teams took medals. I will give a special mention to the under 11 boys who took the gold medals to add to their third place team finish. This is a truly fantastic result and hopefully many of these youngsters will stick with the sport as they enter their teens. Indvidual event results are here.

So, the club came away with eight medals. There is plenty to smile about in the Whitemoss camp.

24th February 2007- Scottish Universities Indoor Track and Field Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

Well done to Whitemoss athlete, David Robertson, competing for Edinburgh University who claimed 3rd place in two events at this championship. He cleared 3.65m in the pole vault and recorded a leap of 1.75m for the high jump, a new personal best.

Indoor League Final Qualifiers

The qualifying teams are now confirmed. Seven Whitemoss teams are through with the under 15 boys and under 17 men, previously thought to have qualified, unfortunately missing out when the morning and afternoon results were combined to determine the top five in each age group. Therefore it's well done to the following:

Girls- under 11, under 15, under 17, under 20

Boys- under 11, under 20 A, under 20 B

However, each age group will be permitted to enter up to three relay teams.

For the statisticians among you, click here to access the morning results for match 3 and here for a summary of the leading morning and afternoon clubs over the three meetings. You will require Microsoft Excel or other appropriate spreadsheet software to view these files.

10th and 11th February 2007- Scottish Combined Events Championship, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

If you thought perhaps competing in two events in one afternoon was strenuous, some crazy people do up to 5 or even 7. To me, the thought of training for a combination of middle distance, sprint hurdles, jumping, throwing and pole vaulting sounds a handful. However, that is what the 7 Whitemoss athletes taking part here have done. The medal count did not matter too much because what we saw was a multitiude of personal bests and encouraging performances. Here are the full results.

Under 13 Girls Pentathlon (High Jump, 60m hurdles, long jump, shot putt, 800m)

9th: Elena McKinlay, 1104 points and 2 personal bests

Under 15 Girls Pentathlon (Events as above)

4th: Nicky McMurtrie, 2505 points and 3rd Scot

7th: Marie Claire Martin, 2307 points (debut national championship)

10th: Ainsley Douglas, 1787 points, 2 personal bests plus an "800m PB for running indoors with a cold."

Under 17 Women Pentahlon (Events as above)

13th: Lorraine Boyd, 1713 points and 2 personal bests

Under 17 Men Pentathlon (Long jump, 60m hurdles, high jump, shot putt, 1000m)

3rd: Ryan Grant, 2799 points, bronze medal

Under 20 Men Heptathlon (60m, long jump, shot putt, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, 1000m), held over 2 days

5th: Craig McEwan, 3742 points and new pole vault personal best by 15cm (2.70m)

10th February 2007- Scottish National Cross Country Championships, Callendar Park, Falkirk

Here are the results from a bitterly cold, muddy and hilly Callendar Park where the biggest domestic cross country event of the winter season took place. 1133 runners from all corners of Scotland ran in 9 races over the course of the afternoon. The north, central belt, south, even Stornoway were represented at this competition. Well done to the following Whitemoss representatives for their efforts. I presume no-one objects to me throwing in my own result too. The full list is at www.scottishathletics.org.uk under the "Calendar" option.

10th February- Scottish Masters/Old Boys Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

Whitemoss has one new Scottish champion and a silver medallist from this championship. Well done to the two gnarled veterans, Keith Stoddart and Iain McEwan for setting an example for the remainder of the club's athletes to follow.

M40, i.e. over 40s Long Jump- Keith Stoddart, 5.10m, gold medal

M45 High Jump- Iain McEwan Senior, 1.60m, silver medal (winner but for the guy from South West England who decided to appear).

4th February 2007- Scottish Athletics Indoor League Match 3, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

Well the scrutinised results from match 2 failed to materialise before the third competition took place. Not to worry, it looks like 9 Whitemoss teams have made it through to the finals on 18th March. The top 5 taken from both the morning and afternoon sessions qualified. They are as follows:-

U11 Boys
A 1st 44 pts

U11 Girls

20th January 2007- Scottish Senior Indoor Championships and Junior Relays, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

Only the three results to report here. The Scottish Age Group Championships for under 13, 15, 17 and 20 have still to come though in February.

Women

Laura McCord- 3000m, 11:15.66, 4th (6 seconds from a bronze medal)

Men

David Robertson- Pole Vault, 3.60m, 6th

Allan Scott (honorary member, competing for Shaftesbury Barnet)- 60m hurdles (heat), 7.81s, 1st; 60m hurdles (final), 7.78s, gold medal

13th and 14th January 2007- West District and Closed Senior Indoor Championships, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow

Here are the results for both days' competition. Full results are accessible in PDF format on the Scottish Athletics site. Seven medals from thirteen people is a good ratio but the participation rate is slightly low for a club with over 100 members. See the debate on the forum for more.

Under 13 Boys- Nicholas Phillips, 800m (Heat), 2:43.2, 3rd

Craig Whyteside, 800m (Heat), 2:36.7, 2nd; 800m (Final), 2:40.42, 4th

Under 15 Girls- Nicky McMurtrie, 60m (Heat), 8.91s, 4th; Shot Putt, 8.78m, silver medal

Stuart Jamieson- 400m (Heat), 57.0s, 4th

Under 20 Women- Laura McCord, 3000m, 11:14.09, gold medal (4th in senior race)

Julie Whyteside- 3000m, 11:33.97, bronze medal (6th in senior race)

Senior Men- Billy McGill, 200m (Heat), 22.88s, 1st; 200m (Semi Final), 22.71s, 3rd; 200m (Final), 23.05s, 5th

13th January 2007- Great Edinburgh International and Inter-District Championships, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh

The elite races were televised by the BBC but there were also some age group races taking place. Under 17s Laura McCord and Julie Whyteside represented the Scotland West team over a distance of 4.4km. If you stepped outdoors at any point during the weekend, the first thing you would notice is the severe galeforce winds, conditions which were endured by competitors in the capital. Laura took 8th in 20:03 and Julie 9th in 20:17. An excellent effort!
